Attention Festival Organizers! Ever notice how most jazz supporters are getting a little long in the tooth? It takes some depth of experience and background to fully appreciate our American art form. So now is the time to create new jazz lovers to help this music thrive for generations. Consider having Matthew introduce jazz to kids at your festival with some be-bop storytelling that families will love. His new program for festivals introduces jazz in ways that kids can understand. What do jazz cats mean by “freedom”? Freedom to play songs differently is like using your crayons to draw OUTSIDE the lines, on purpose, to be expressive and to create new effects. What do they mean by “improvisation”? That’s like using your backpack for an umbrella to keep the rain off your head!
Matthew’s new program for festivals includes lively, interactive, musical performances of two of his all-time favorite books with audio, The Jazz Fly and Jazz Fly 2: The Jungle Pacahanga. This entertaining and accessible family program lasts 30+ minutes and is ideal for smaller stages. Matthew can also provide kid appeal on large stages with mini-performances of 6-10 minutes between featured acts. Click here to watch a video for more about festival programs.
